Winter Weather Warning

Due to winter weather resulting in snow accumulation and current road conditions, all City of Norfolk offices and facilities, including recreation centers, libraries, and The Slover, will be closed TODAY, Wednesday, Jan. 22. This includes MacArthur Memorial, Virginia Zoo, Nauticus and Norfolk Botanical Garden as well as the Norfolk Courthouse. Norfolk Animal Care Center is closed on Wednesdays per the regular operational schedule.

Waste Management collections will operate on a delay and attempt to service routes. If a resident’s bin is not collected, they are asked to leave it at the curb. Bulk and yard waste collections scheduled for today will be collected on Saturday, Jan. 25.

Due to road conditions, TFC Recycling, the City’s recycling contractor, will postpone today’s collections until Saturday.

Public Works crews will be plowing primary routes today into the evening. They will also place salt and sand on primary routes, bridges, underpasses, and key intersections. If possible, residents are asked to stay off the roads so crews can operate and emergency vehicles can respond without interference.

On-street parking downtown along Waterside Drive, Granby Street, Boush Street, and Main Street was removed last night to allow plowing operations. York Street Garage has been made available to those needing a parking place.

Norfolk Cares is available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today. Residents are advised to submit requests to Norfolk Cares via the mobile app at www.mynorfolk.org or by calling (757) 664-6510.
