Thank you for your invaluable input which helped identify these key areas: enhancing public safety, investing in our neighborhoods, fostering economic growth, ensuring affordable housing, and improving environmental resilience. Here, we outline our strategic approach and forthcoming specific actions designed to make Norfolk a better place for everyone.

Reimagining Public Safety

As your City Council member,

I will work tirelessly to reimagine what public safety means for us. Together we will enhance the relationship between our community and law enforcement, ensuring both safety and respect for all our residents.

Increase investment in community-based violence prevention programs to address the root causes of gun violence.
Fully fund the Norfolk Police Department to ensure adequate resources for crime prevention and community safety.
Support educational and workforce development programs for non-violent offenders to promote successful reentry into society.
Advocate for the implementation of neighborhood watch programs and community policing to build trust between law enforcement and residents.
Push for state-of-the-art emergency response technology and improved coordination between first responders to reduce response times.

Promote policies that prioritize infrastructure improvements, including road repairs, lighting, and better stormwater management systems.
Champion the beautification of neighborhoods through park upgrades, community gardens, and green spaces for families and children.
Collaborate with civic leagues to ensure that neighborhood concerns are addressed in city planning and budgeting processes.
Advocate for expanding access to broadband internet in underserved neighborhoods to bridge the digital divide.

Making Housing

More Affordable

Everyone deserves a safe, affordable place to call home. That's why I'm dedicated to tackling the housing challenges in our city, supporting initiatives that increase housing availability and affordability, and ensuring no one is left behind.

Advocate for the legalization of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) to expand affordable housing options throughout the city.
Support policies that reduce minimum lot size requirements, enabling the development of smaller, more affordable homes.
Work with city planners and developers to increase the availability of mixed-income housing projects.
Push for transparency and oversight in the redevelopment of the St. Paul’s District, ensuring displaced residents are provided with adequate relocation assistance and affordable options.
Collaborate with housing nonprofits and state agencies to secure funding for affordable housing programs and low-income housing tax credits.

Investing in Our People

Increase funding for Norfolk Public Schools to ensure every student has access to quality education, modern facilities, and updated technology.
Expand job training and apprenticeship programs in partnership with local businesses and educational institutions to prepare residents for high-demand careers.
Advocate for affordable childcare and early childhood education programs to support working families and ensure children are ready for school.
Support mental health and substance abuse services by increasing access to community health resources, particularly for underserved populations.

I understand the importance of making life in Norfolk affordable for everyone. That's why I'm exploring innovative ways to generate revenue and smart investments that can help reduce tax burdens on our residents.

Advocate for responsible budget management to ensure efficient use of tax dollars while maintaining critical city services.
Explore opportunities to lower property tax rates by increasing revenue through economic development and expanding the city’s tax base.

I see incredible economic opportunities for Norfolk. My goal is to foster a supportive environment for local businesses and entrepreneurs and attract innovative new enterprises to our city, creating more high-quality jobs and bolstering our local economy.

Support local small businesses and entrepreneurs by reducing bureaucratic red tape and providing grants and tax incentives.
Attract new industries to Norfolk by leveraging Norfolk’s port, tourism, and technological infrastructure.
Promote workforce development initiatives to train residents for emerging job sectors, including green energy and technology.
Champion equitable development practices to ensure that economic growth benefits all areas of the city, including traditionally underserved communities.
Collaborate with regional partners to create a robust, resilient economy that attracts entrepreneurs and investors to Norfolk and the Hampton Roads Region.

Addressing Resilience

and Flooding

Flooding and climate change are real challenges for us in Norfolk. I am committed to enhancing our city's infrastructure and adopting sustainable practices to protect our community and preserve our environment for future generations.

Work with regional partners on comprehensive flood mitigation strategies, including improved levees, sea walls, and wetland restoration projects.
Support green infrastructure projects to mitigate flooding and improve Norfolk's resilience to sea-level rise.
Encourage energy efficiency programs for both public and private buildings, reducing Norfolk’s carbon footprint.
Push for investments in renewable energy projects, including solar power and offshore wind, to transition Norfolk to a greener energy future.
